Werke von Aram Chatschaturian, Franz Xaver Süßmayr und Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

New Year’s Eve Concert //

The Staatskapelle Weimar and its Principal Conductor Kirill Karabits kick off the New Year with another acoustically opulent dialogue between the Orient and Occident. Aram Khachaturian is largely famous for his three ballets whose suites took the world’s concert halls by storm. Due to their vitality and emotional force, several excerpts from »Gayaneh« (especially the legendary »Sabre dance«!) have frequently been featured in numerous films.

The sparkling display of stage magic at the start of the New Year includes several classical works as well, whereby Mozart and his contemporaries also found inspiration in Oriental influences and foreign cultures. Our star soloist is the 92-year-old piano legend Menahem Pressler who will present Mozart’s Piano Concerto KV488 – one of the most fully developed pieces in the series. Pressler received the ECHO Klassik Award in 2015 for his life’s work – an extraordinarily sensitive artist with the technical brilliance of a rising star.
