OPEN-AIR CONCERT NIGHT

One of the highlights of the Weimar summer this year again is the concert night of the Staatkapelle Weimar and the weimar GmbH in the unique ambience of the Weimarhallenpark. Atmospherically illuminated on Saturday, 6 July 2019, from 8 p.m., it will form the backdrop for a musical journey "From the Vltava to the New World". In the first part, the two program classics with the same title will sound: Bedrich Smetana's symphonic poem "The Moldau" and Antonin Dvorák's 9th symphony "From the New World". After the break, jazzy influences heat up the well-tempered classical music when the inspiring 'Clash of Cultures' of the early 20th century is celebrated with music by George Gershwin, Paul Hindemith, Igor Stravinsky and Aaron Copland. Of course, Hollywood must not be missed, too, and so the Staatskapelle with Erich Wolfgang Korngold's music for the pirate epic "Captain Blood" dives deep into the modern man's longing for adventure captured on canvas. The symphonic dances from Leonard Bernstein's cult musical "West Side Story" crown the concert with rousing rhythms between jazz and Latin, based on one of the most beautiful love stories of world literature.

The musical direction is in the hands of Gregor Bühl; DNT actor Max Landgrebe will moderate the evening. The orchestra of the music school "Johann Nepomuk Hummel", conducted by Erik Sieglerschmidt, will play from 6 p.m. to set the mood.

The open-air concert with large fireworks for the finale can be experienced from the terraces of the Weimarhalle or with a cosy picnic on the meadows around Weimarhallenteich. For safety reasons, only blankets and cardboard stools are permitted in the strolling area. The latter can be purchased at the entrance for a nominal fee.
