Love Letters

Play by A. R. Gurney

German translation by Inge Greiffenhagen and Daniel Karasek

Two people write each other letters. A correspondence that lasts decades. Only in their letters do they feel truly connected to one another. For reality pushes them apart.

Andy, a boy from the middle class, sets out to pursue the American dream. He climbs the career ladder, starts a family and leads a respectable life in the suburbs, while Melissa, a girl from a wealthy family, tries to escape her upbringing and pursue her dream of a »different life« – even if it means risking failure.
The letters they write to each other are like bridges that carry them to one another over every divide and chasm.

A. R. Gurney’s wildly successful play tells the story of an unusual romance between two people for whom the written word is the key to their relationship. The leads are played by Elke Wieditz and Bernd Lange.
