Family Celebration

A cross-generational theatre project on civic courage and the struggle to talk to one another · World premiere

How do we deal with family members who see the world differently than we? Do we listen to each other? Or do we instantly go into »attack mode«? And what does it mean for society as a whole when insurmountable chasms open up within a family as society’s smallest social unit? Despite our differences, where can we find common ground?

This project highlights the ever-recurring situation of a family celebration in which every possible topic – including political views – bubble to the surface and are rehashed again and again by different generations.

For this theatre project, we’re interested in involving citizens of three generations. Who has experienced a political upheaval and doesn’t shy away from engaging in political discussion around the coffee table? And who is interested in talking about it in a theatre project?

We would like to examine this subject in depth with the participants, stage participative interactions at various locations in town and develop a theatre production. We are looking for 10 to 15 actors who will form a temporary family who celebrates together – come what may – and invent a common family history.
